The Latest News from those Rosenlund Huskers!

Mission Accomplished!

We finally completed the boy's bedroom upgrade this week as we laid the floor and completed the floor and door moldings on Tuesday night. The lower wall was painted a dark green with yellow trim to look like the home run wall of a baseball diamond, and the upper part a sky blue. Yellow trim at opposite corners are the foul ball poles and numbers in each corner will soon measure the distances. Omaha may have Rosenblatt Stadium, but we have Rosenlund Stadium.

I think our favorite part of the project was the flooring. A vinyl floor made to look like blonde maple, it comes in 3 foot strips at 6 inches wide. They are free-floating like laminate, but are completely water resistant, required only a utility knife to size them, and glue to the next with overlapping edges. Even a complete novice like me was able to install a very nice floor in just one night, and we are so very pleased with the way it looks. Becky wants it in our laundry room as soon as possible.

Yesterday we spent a day in Omaha and had a really great time. Our first stop was the Bishop's Storehouse just on the western side of Omaha as Becky, Topher and Meile provided some service at the cannery. Our stake had a scheduled day there and Becky had some product on order, so we were able to both provide some service and complete some of our own food storage needs.

The little kids are not so helpful at the cannery, so I took them on a tour of Omaha as we tried to complete a little project. You see, on our way there, our windshield wipers got all fouled up and one stopped working. So, I was on a mission to get them fixed while Becky was occupied at the cannery, I went from Wal-Mart, to the car part place, to a Dodge dealer to get it fixed. Ultimately, no one had a replacement wiper arm, but the gentleman at the Dodge dealership said that a simple tightening should do it. He was right, and with a little adjustment to make sure that the two arms would not run into one another, we were ready. Luckily so because on our return trip, we ran into a pretty good downpour and would have been in real trouble without it.

Mama's Takin' Us to the Zoo

If there is one thing I have learned that my wife really loves, it is the Zoo. Whether the Kaunas Zoo in Lithuania where we would provide service as missionaries, to the Zoo Boise (my favorite if only because they are so cool in Idaho that they name it backwards), to this fantastic zoo here in Omaha. This past winter, we bought a family pass for the year and it has already paid for itself on this second trip.

This is our second trip as a family, but really my first as the previous trip revolved around a temple outing and I really only had a limited amount of time there. So, the kids and Becky took me all over the facility as we left no exhibit behind. Unfortunately, it was the Saturday before Memorial Day and it was extremely crowded. The weather was really quite nice, warm but not humid yet, and once in a while we would get a breeze.

Perhaps the family's favorite spot was the petting zoo. This small gated area had a collection of goats that roam around as scores of children and their parents follow around trying to get the animal's attention. At one time, Matthew was able to get one goat to sit still as he petted it for what seemed like 10-15 minutes. Becky and I really appreciated the chance to sit and relax after hours and hours of walking.

The great thing about this zoo is you can really go back time after time and enjoy something different every time. We are already looking forward to our net trip to spend more of our time in the aquarium, desert dome, and the wild kingdom exhibit. This just may become a great family tradition!
