Thanksgiving "Daze"

This Thanksgiving was a far more relaxing holiday as we stayed home, hosted friends and the missionaries. Last year, we spent the week traveling to and from Niagara Falls, Canada, to see Becky's grandparents. Perhaps this is a chance to compare and contrast our holidays...

Travel
2007: Over 2500 miles in the van, car sickness, nursing baby, fights, games, diapers, snow, and truck stop bathrooms. 7 states, two countries.
2008: Trips to Wal-Mart for extra pie. Hmmmmmmm pie.

Adventures
2007: Standing as a family in the Kirtland Temple, Hill Cumorah, and the Sacred Grove.
2008: Jon balancing on the edge of the roof hanging Christmas lights.

Thanksgiving Morning Activity:
2007: Singing for Grandma and Grandpa Roberts in the care center.
2008: Jon almost killed at the local LDS Turkey-bowl Game. (I'm still aching.)

Food
2007: Wendy's for Jr. Bacon Cheese times 6. We all got violently ill the next day.
2008: Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, jello-salad, crescent rolls and much more!

Guests
2007: Us, at Grandma/Grandpa's empty apartment; then in South Bend visiting Melanie/Darren, John/Char.
2008: Our friends the Becks, and two missionary companionships.

Music
2007: Singing for Grandpa and Grandma Roberts in the care center.
2008: Daina's made-up songs about everything under the sun.

BYU vs. Utah
2007: BYU wins in the last minutes. Hurray!
2008: BYU drops six turnovers to loose big in the 4th quarter.

After-Dinner Activity
2007: Visiting the Niagara Falls, in cold cloudy conditions!
2008: Chatting with old friends and delivering pie to our 911 Dispatchers.

Thanksgiving Clean-Up
2007: A disturbing combination of diarrhea and vomit.
2008: Just the dishes.

Black Friday
2007: Wondering what it would be like to vomit while driving 70 mph.
2008: Jon sleeping in til 0900 hrs while Becky fought the shopping crowds at 0430. Priceless....

Holidays can be very different, but each has its own character and memories. Most importantly, we had special times with loved ones and friends and realized we have so much to be thankful for. We love you and miss you!
